Update on Ozonated Glycerin
#3 2026 The Rowen Report
Dear Subscriber,
I have some ozonated glycerin information for you today and will enlist your help in a key observation of my own use.
First, PURO3 has announced its production of OG suppositories. They will carry the power of 1000 mg of high-quality OG in a form easy to insert into a body orifice for local treatment. This could be very powerful for women with vaginal issues and anyone with lower bowel issues (rectal application). I believe this is the first such OG suppository product on the market. If you purchase the product for personal use, I hope you will keep in touch with me about your observations so that I can share with our broader community.
Next, my own use of OG. About a year ago, I decided to use OG pro-actively on my buttock, when for personal treatment of cold sores I might get every several months. When I get them, they are intensely itchy, uncomfortable but not too overtly painful. And I get an outbreak in waves, meaning I get one lesion which takes some days to heal, but before it is totally gone, a second lesion appears, and before it is totally gone, I get yet a third. I found that OG applied topically would stop the discomfort and itching within a few minutes. How wonderful!
So, I decided to go a bit further, and apply OG preventively. I have been applying it once or twice a day over the entire area where I have ever gotten a lesion. Why? Because the lesions come back to the same spots. This is likely because the virus (HSV) migrates up a nerve from the skin where it lies dormant until it comes back down to cause its next outbreak in the same or nearby area in the distribution of that afflicted nerve.
It was HSV that lured my interest in ozone in 1986, when I read some German literature suggesting that ozone would oxidize the lipid envelope of the virus to inactivate it. My hopes were high. But I never saw ozone therapy get rid of herpes, even using topical ozonized oils and very aggressive intravenous therapies. My buddy Howard Robins says he has seen remissions with long term DIV administration (direct intravenous gas). I have not had such success with ozone eliminating HSV.
So, now I have thought to prepare a defense lying in wait for the virus to migrate down and cause a lesion, and hopefully knocking it out as soon as it emerges from the protective shield of the nerve it hides in. So, I rub OG (very thin film) into my vulnerable skin. It absorbs in well, and just sits. When the virus emerges from the nerve into the skin, I am hopeful the OG is right there to immediately interact with the virus even before it can enter the skin cell to cause a lesion.
Since I started doing this, I’ve had two incidents. The first was when I was traveling and missed 4 days in a row. I had the usual course of lesions. One month ago, I had another outbreak but it starting on OG treated skin. This outbreak was a comparative nothing compared to others. The first lesion healed up in 2 days, and the second lesion in about 4. I did not get the usual 3rd lesion, nor did the duration even get to 50% of the usual time from start to finish.
I am hoping I am on to something here. I’d rather take a product like OG than a drug. Acyclovir (Valtrex) interferes with viral genetic material. Because of it mechanism, I have personal concern that it could affect my own DNA. In fact, in high doses, the literature says it can. So, I have shied away from it. I have used it once, for a few days only 2 years ago when I had demonic pain from herpes zoster (shingles).
So, I put out an appeal to all of you who have endured HSV infection, no matter in the upper or lower parts of your body. I believe it is as close to 100% safe as can be. (Anyone can be sensitive to anything).
If you use it preventively 2 times daily, please keep it up for a year or at least the time period of 3 expected cycles, and let me know your results. OG is not clothing staining oil, and is water soluble. Easy to wash off and also get out of your clothes if it does get in, simply with water. OG has given me much more relief, and quicker, than ozonated oils for this issue. Thanks so much, in advance.
On another note, I was asked about nebulizing OG. I am getting many messages that nebulized administration is helping a wide variety of health challenges, not just respiratory related either. A reader asked me how to do it.
OG is soluble in water and in saline. For nebulization, I prefer using distilled water for dilution. Here is our latest recommendation for nebulized OG:
Asthmatics/smokers/sensitive people can begin with 1% OG (0.1 cc OG diluted with 9.9 cc un-chlorinated, filtered water). Otherwise, can begin with 2.5% strength (0.5 cc OG diluted with 19.5 cc un-chlorinated, filtered water) and can increase strength to maximum 15% strength (1 cc OG diluted with ~ 5½ cc un-chlorinated, filtered water) as tolerated. Can nebulize 5 ml twice a day as tolerated.
Finally, a comment on a friend I gave OG to. Unexpectedly, I was told that morning stiffness and achiness had disappeared. This is exciting as it mimics what a costly intravenous ozone treatment might accomplish. One tsp of OG carries far more active oxygen than a common gravity method ozone treatment. The question remains if the method of administration alters its effectiveness. So far, I’ve observed that non intravenous entry of OG into the body has quite favorable effects. We are in the midst of a bad flu season. I encourage all to have some OG on hand and if not using it preventively, certainly get it going at first sign of respiratory symptoms. If you do, please let me know HOW you do. I know that OG dramatically helps rather serious pulmonary infections. Flu should be easy in comparison.

Dr Rowen,
Recently a patient came in with a cold sore on her lip, crossing the vermillion border and creeping distally. I used 1cc of Ozone gas at 12ug. It resolved within days and hasn’t come back.

"ozone would oxidize the lipid envelope of the virus to inactivate it. " We have noticed that the photosensitizer, Rose Bengal has a fast (within minutes) soothing effect on shingles sores and wondered what it was doing. RB catalyzes formation of singlet oxygen in the presence of light, and singlet oxygen is a significant oxidizing agent. Rose Bengal eye drops are used to visualize corneal damage, and this may be another off label use for it. It might be inconvenient to apply to certain places and get good exposure to light!
