Shout out to my TMJ specialist - one of the most highly trained and wonderful to work with.

Fluoroquinolone poisoning (by antibiotics) bc of the fluoride and mercury toxicity can also cause severe TMJ symptoms, as was the case for me.

He said the worst cases he sees are bc people are given fluoridated drugs to “treat” boss loss - on an xray, will look thicker but is actually more brittle as fluoride causes bone destruction.

Dr Rowen’s dental diagnosis is trauma from occasion of that particular tooth or teeth. The extra vertical and or lateral pressure on the tooth caused by clinching or grinding of the teeth due to personal habit or stress or night gringing iduring sleep are the main causes. The very localized powerful jaw force on one or two teeth and not simultaneously on all teeth brushes the fibers holding the tooth in its bony socket. The socket is a joint like anatomical structure named a gomphosis. The same type of gomphosis joint connecting the ribs to the sternum which can but injured while doing dips at the gym. References are Grays Anatomy Text and Ramfjord’s old periodontal textbook. By adjusting the occlusion (grinding off specific tiny spots of hard contact detected by using type writer like carbon paper) of these particular tooth or teeth, the tooth with the swollen periodontal ligament (socket) had immediate relief when biting the teeth together.

Glad you got your bite issue corrected without needing a tooth pulled Dr. Rowen. I have had an issue with clenching for at least 23 years. I didn't know I was doing it at first, but a friend took a picture of me and I didn't recognize myself. My left masseter muscle was larger than the right which gives my face a rounded appearance on the left side.

Nobody had ever said anything to me and I was wondering if it was in my head until during a dentist visit with a new dentist he mentioned it to me. I asked what caused it and he told me it was from clenching.

Within the next few years I actually broke a molar from clenching and it couldn't be saved. Despite wearing a mouth guard at night for the past 13+ years, I continue to clench. Before getting the guard, the clenching caused small fractures along my gum lines causing sensitivity that were repaired.

The only treatment I'm aware of is Botox injections in my masseter muscle, but at $750/treatment, I cannot afford $2100/year.
