I am 73. Most of my friends with ‘normal’ BP, my age, are low energy/low liveliness. My friends with higher BP are far more vital. They are more alive, and they do more things. I think the 120/80 paradigm for BP might be fine for young adults. But 140-150/90-95 is better for elderly. A doctor told me he is seeing massive increases in early dementia starting about 10 years ago. Around then they lowered the threshold for putting someone on BP medication. So…tossing something out…as we age some people’s tubes get clogged, maybe thin out etc. in order to pump blood everywhere, including the brain, we NEED higher blood pressure. Without it the brain becomes energy and oxygen starved. And you get dementia.

At 82 years old I have had lots of spare parts added to my body, and my friends call me Bionic Bernie. With all the doctoring I have had, I have found that too many practitioners are all about dispensing prescriptions and not treating the causation of an issue. Finding a learned specialist is the key. After 13 years with the same heart doctor, receiving tests twice a year, I decided to find a new heart doctor and within one month I had a new Aorta heart valve replacement and a pacemaker implanted. Would not be here to write this comment if not switching to a younger doctor who cared.

Re shingles

I started getting the itching at my waist, the next day figured out it could be shingles. I did research on PubMed & found a study using infrared light, golden light, blue light. The golden light was best to lower the pain of the shingles outbreak. I used my infrared light because it was midnight & I couldn't go buy a yellow light. The pain was gone the next morning and hasn't been back. I can't say if I got rid of the shingles that was coming on or not, but I'm sure glad I don't have shingles now!!! I've had it before. It's not fun. I also got pneumonia after the blisters left. You have my deepest sympathy for your terrible experience with shingles!!!

This alzheimer's early warning test is crap. As Dr. Bredersen advised, AD is essentially a lifestyle disease and one which Big Pharma simply can never fix. While amyloid beta and tau tangles (not the mere existence of the tau proteins) are merely symptoms of the body's attempts to deal with an underlying condition. Dr B points to 26 currently known such conditions and advises that since none of these are the root cause, treating them all would require 26 new drugs, and with potentially several thousand potential adverse effects they could bring, none of which can possibly reverse AD, finding two of the 26 is spitting into the wind.

But the bottom line, as I point out (https://dennispatrickrodgers.substack.com/p/just-say-no-to-this-test) is that it is useless yet replete with the potential to violate your rights and freedom.

I don't believe Dr. Rowan is a proponent of PDE5 inhibitor drugs like Viagra (sildenafil) and Cialis (tadalafil), but a recent, I think retrospective, study found that those who took sildenafil had something like 65% lower rates of Alzheimer's disease, and it is speculated that there would be a similar correlation with tadalafil use. This is possibly due to increase blood fluid to the brain. Although these drugs can lower blood pressure a little bit it's not as much as blood pressure medication, and it does it by relaxing the blood vessels and capillaries, so would likely not reduce blood flow like normal blood pressure medication. At the same time, study with a drug to reduce amyloid or tau protein showed no benefit. Of course, because PDE5 inhibitor drugs are off patent and cheap, I don't believe the pharmaceutical industry is sponsoring studies to test those drugs for prevention of Alzheimer's.
