Dear Subscriber,

In parts 1 and 2, I outlined the importance of proper structure of membranes and the need for absolute need for omega 6 in your diet. Others are telling you that omega 6 is the greatest poison to hit the shelf. Well, yes, if refined as you will see below. But not if you are getting it, as you should, in wholesome foods, unadulterated, unoxidized, not rancid, etc.

Highlights from the body of the landmark article with comments from me:
“Replacement of (18:2)4CL with (22:6)4CL prevents the formation of lipid domains by influencing the Gibbs free energy of lipid-lipid mixing.” (Rowen interpretation: Replacement of 18 carbon chain linoleic acid with 22 carbon chain DHA damages the lipid domains)
“These results were consistent with a study showing that fish oil can lower liver mitochondrial complex IV and V activities.” (Rowen interpretation: Longer chain fatty acids will lower the activity of the energy producing complex IV and V proteins in the mitochondrial membrane as pictured above.)
“These results demonstrate mechanistically that it is not the loss of linoleic acid alone that drives the impairment in enzyme function since the Western diet alone did not impair enzyme activities. Instead, it was the replacement of linoleic acid with DHA that promoted the reduction in activities.” (Rowen note: Replacement of the needed linoleic acid with marine DHA, which you will get from marine oil supplements).
