Dear Subscriber,
There is a new official name for a medical malady I’ve been writing about. It is called “plasticosis” and is now officially identified. Please visit:
You will see some vivid photos of biopsies of the gut lining of sea birds dying from the poisoning. The researchers are not hesitant to say that this crisis is also affecting many other species and calling the observations in the flesh-footed shearwaters birds the “canary in the coal mine”.
I must say, I am concerned about the effects of use of fossil fuels on the environment. However, global warming or not, the earth will be able to ultimately recover from CO2, methane, and nitrogen oxides we emit and remain after we are pushed off the planet. Plastic pollution will be around forever, especially fluorinated “forever chemicals”. It will not be easy for the planet to recover from the insult of plastics, even after we are pushed off the planet for what we did to it. Plastic is in the atmosphere, ALL OVER the planet. A recent report from the pristine Sierra snowfields this year confirm microplastic is “snowing” out in the blizzards.
Rather than sink $120B into the sinkhole swamp of an endless war in Europe, that is only benefiting the banksters, the militarists, industry, and destroying us financially, etc., think of what that kind of investment would do to develop natural alternatives to plastics, the use of hemp instead of plastic fibers, and perhaps a bacterial pac-man to begin to eat up and degrade plastic in the environment, or mandatory recycling of plastic. Sadly, bins near us that I used to use for recycling plastic bags have disappeared. While the politicians championing “global warming” and trying to ram draconian policies down our throats over this, the same politicians are fostering war and doing NADA about a forever environmental problem, not even raising the issue.
Rather than divide and conquer over sexual dysphoria and accept is as a “new normal”, why not look into the chemical destruction of the environment and the possibility/likelihood that it is causing re-wiring of neurons by plastic hormone disruption. I am not knocking the problem of gender dysphoria. I am using logic. I recall no issues with this in my childhood generation. Yes, we had gays, which have clearly been with humanity for millennia. But generally, the gays I have known in the past had clear identity of their gender, but simply preferred a lover of the same gender. Unlike trans issues, it did not seem, at least to me, to devastate their personal identity, and so many have told me this.
But the burgeoning issues we now have with gender identity? That is new and while I believe there is malevolence in the government and press over this matter foisting divisiveness, I also believe that rather than foist division over a problem that is certainly disturbing to one afflicted with gender dysphoria, it would be superior to look at non-media and peer pressure causes of the dysphoria and to prevent the dysphoria rather than trying to get the afflicted to change identities.
Please avoid purchasing items wrapped or stored in plastic. Do not buy synthetic clothing, fabrics, bedding, etc. Polyester and nylon is everywhere, and microfibers come out of your dryer vent. Even with my aging eyes, I can often see fibers floating past me in the outdoors. I am breathing in these. It cannot be helped.
Avoid wrinkle proof clothing. It is likely loaded with chemicals. Don’t wear water proof fabrics as the chemicals can come through your skin. Better to wear a real raincoat. Reuse plastic bags before tossing them. Lobby your political rulers to work on solutions for plastic recycling. I consider matters like this a legitimate function of government as we all have rights to clean air and water.
I admit that plastic has made modern life easier in so many ways. But like we are doing with our debt – saddling our children with a calamity for wars and extravagances today, we are doing the same with current ease of life and saddling the entire planet for our sins.
To Your Excellent Health,
Robert Jay Rowen, MD
PS. 10-20% of lung cancers are NOT cigarette related, and is more frequent in women than men. The proportion of never smokers getting lung cancer is increasing: https://www.statnews.com/2021/01/26/growing-share-of-lung-cancer-turning-up-in-never-smokers/
Rather than possibly infringe by posting here copyrighted photos of plastic pollution, please visit https://medium.com/@toothcrush/the-10-most-insane-images-of-plastic-suffocating-our-oceans-ec0d84cec908. These photos will likely bring tears to your eyes. We are going to reach the point where there will be more plastic, by weight, in the ocean than fish. This site has one solution – bamboo toothbrush rather than plastic!
Thank you for the disagreement. I wonder if we can say the same about autism. Did we see it in our day, or was it somehow suppressed?
Amen, Dr. Rowen! Years ago, I read that fish actually prefer eating plastic to food. It reminded me of reading that bees prefer neonicotinoid-laced nectar. Nature does not know how to "Just say no!" to these poisons. The yoga pants craze ushered in the ongoing popularity of tight synthetic leggings that is microplastic manna in the ecosystem. And we insanely equate plastic with hygiene: everything is wrapped in multiple plastic layers, as if the merchandise was packed in a clean room and is antiseptic until opened. This dovetails into the covid craziness with landfills now full of plastic facemasks and more perceived need to supposedly seal out germs. Speaking of manna, Monsanto, which rains Roundup for us all to eat, in the 1950s exhibited its House of the Future, at Disney's Tomorrowland, which was an advertising paean to plastic. Looks like Tomorrowland is Now with slow death by plasticosis.
