Dear Subscriber,
This series started from a request from a subscriber to discuss ozone therapy. First, I’d like to share with you my introduction to ozone.
It was 1986, a time we were all terrified of oxidants and free radicals. I stumbled across an ozone machine at a major medical meeting exhibit hall. I said “OZONE?” “OZONE?”. That is an oxidant. Aren’t we supposed to be wary of pro-oxidants? Well the distributor really didn’t know what he had. The machine was not his, but he was selling it for another company. He handed me some German literature. I took it up to my room and couldn’t put it down. I stayed up until 2am, went to bed, and got up at 7:30am to be the first in the exhibit hall to get that machine. I am not a morning person.
Well, I did get the machine and with the first treatment on a chronic fatigue patient, my medical life changed literally on the spot. Patients who were untreatable at the hands of many others responded beyond the imagination of a young but open-minded physician. My nurse and I were in awe. We saw chronic infection, chronic illness, mold illness, chronic fatigue, and more. Most everyone got better. People drove hundreds of miles to get to out Anchorage clinic.
In those days, we really didn’t know exactly what we were treating or the biochemical abnormalities associated with the chronic illness. Now we know a lot more. Much of what we were treating back then (and now) was occult infection we did not recognize – for example, like Lyme disease. We knew about EBV and several others, but now we know there are a lot of known stealth infections. We also suspected a lot of chemical related illness. Now, we can measure a lot of the toxins in us.
I would estimate that 95% of the patients in the early years got better. It was shocking. However, over the decades (yes decades of professional use) I’ve noticed a gradual slipping in efficacy. So has my friend and colleague, Dr. Howard Robins. I am convinced that a gradual worsening of our food supply, and increase in environmental toxins, and stress coming at us from all directions has led to a gradual loss of improvements of the kind we used to see. So now we believe that about 80-85% of patients will respond nicely. One goal, I have discussed repeatedly in past journalism, is to maximize the body’s terrain with good nutrition, detox, and clearance of interference fields (like dental infections) to enable ozone to resume its amazing work.
So, now let’s jump into mechanisms.
Oxygen: the stuff of life. Absent oxygen, we’d be brain dead in a couple minutes. No circulation to carry oxygen, we would pass out in a few seconds.
