Dear Subscriber,
I received an email from a colleague who took issue with my published comments on NSAID drugs. He believed I was maligning a class of drugs to the detriment of my readers, which drugs can be successfully used for pain. He and his class of professionals use NSAIDs to manage pain for their procedures. He is correct.
I think I should further comment. I’ve said in the past that all drugs have a place, but I think that Pharma and physicians way, way overuse drugs. I think that NSAID drugs do have a limited role for pain management. Especially, to avoid use of narcotics for short term use.
I don’t agree with unbridled and chronic use of NSAID or other pain drugs absent clear non-conventional investigation of origin of the pain or inflammation. Careful use for acute situations may spare pain and suffering. I can’t argue with this.
I sent him a message regarding my concern for use of NSAID drugs in CHRONIC conditions. He shot me back a reply agreeing. So, it seems I didn’t make myself clear about acute vs chronic use of these drugs.
NSAID drugs fall into a class of enzyme inhibitors, which enzymes would otherwise lead to inflammation. It is a broad class. It includes aspirin, Motrin, ibuprofen, and also included the notorious Vioxx, a Merck drug which killed over 100,000 Americans. Covid allegedly has killed 1M Americans (I don’t believe it. I think the numbers are inflated by natural deaths). But COVID has gotten about 10,000 times the press of Vioxx and the horrible skullduggery of Merck over it. And our Rulers and citizens still blindly trust Pharma.
I predicted that Vioxx and its class of NSAID drugs would maim people about 10 years before the story broke. I believe I was the first to bring it forward. How did I know?
